It has been said recently in the Pittsburgh media that we can now declare that Jamie Dixon was the right man for the job. As Lee Corso would say, "Whoa not so fast their." After all we are only half way into the Big East season. If Pitt were to flame out in the first round of the tournament would we still consider Dixon a success??? Don't get me wrong. I love Jamie as much as the next guy. In fact I thing the best thing he did was not change a thing after Howland left. Too many coaches think they have to leave thier imprint on a program to be succesfull. Thats really besides the point though. Let's look at the other guys Pitt considered hiring. Skip Prosser at Wake Forest turned us down but what about Bobby Gonzalez. Who??? Bobby Gonzalez from Manhatten thats who. Manhatten is quietly having a very good season. In fact they have a chance to pull an upset in March. They are atop the Metro League at 13-4 (8-1) in confrence, beat Richmond and took Syracuse to the wire. There leading scorer is Luis Flores averaging 21 a game. When Gonzalez gets to a big time program who knows what he could do. He recruits the New York area but often has the best players stolen from him by teams like Pitt. He is obviously a good recruiter as he found and signed Flores. When Gonzalez moves to the big time we will have a better read on wether Pitt made the right decison
